Abstract
More than nine million (90% of Ontario's population) live in southern Ontario, a comparatively small region which contains only about 10% of the provincial landbase. Southern Ontario is comprised of two distinctive ecoregions..........This paper identifies important conservation challenges facing those working to conserve the region's unique natural heritage, and it provides some ideas for strategic actions and associated program needs in areas most reliant on ecological information, research and science.

Of Upcoming Information and Events
First notice of a Lake Erie Forum of Ontario being planned for September, 2001.
Topic: Planning for Point Pelee National Park, Rondeau Provincial Park and Surrounding Regions: Research, Education, Communication, Stewardship.

This is a cooperative endeavor among PRFO, Pt Pelee National Park, Rondeau Provincial Park, Heritage Resources Centre (University of Waterloo), and local groups and organizations in southwestern Ontario. Overall the focus of interest is how the two parks compare to and can learn from one another in terms of within park planning as well as planning for the surrounding greater park ecosystem. The workshop should be of interest to a range of people including park staff, regional, local, and provincial planners and officials, members of non-governmental organizations, educators, researchers and students.
Algonquin Provincial Park Ecosystem/Forestry/Wildlife Seminar Proceedings are planned to be available at 2001 PRFO
These proceedings consist of 18 abstracts of papers presented and a symposium which reviewed various kinds of forest research conducted in Algonquin Provincial Park, including "Forest-Wildlife Habitat in Selection Logged and Unlogged Hardwood Landscapes",  "Autumnal Energetics and Habitat Selection of the Red Crossbill" and "Landscape Modeling of Moose Habitat", among others. This is hopefully a prototype workshop and publication that could be applied to many other parks and protected areas in Ontario.

2000 SAMPAA/PRFO Conference held at University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. May 14 to 19, 2000

Proceedings are in preparation for the SAMPAA/PRFO conference and will include approximately 100 papers on topics ranging from Marine Parks, through Park and Greater Park Planning and Management, Applications of Ecological and other Science, Public Participation, the Role of Indigenous People and various aspects of the Human Dimensions of Park and Protected Area Planning.
